Bottom line: No one outside Rockstar knows the real size yet. The first trustworthy number should show up on the PlayStation Store around preload on Nov 12, and we'll update this page when it does. Until then, any exact GB figure you see is a guess.

Sony reserves part of each SSD for system software, so the space you can use is less than the number on the box. The exact amount varies by console and software version Confirmed (PlayStation). Check yours in Settings > Storage.
Any PS5 model runs GTA VI, including the Digital Edition, because there's no disc either way. The game isn't playable on PS4 Confirmed (PlayStation).
Free up space (Sony's steps)
- See what's free: go to Settings > Storage (PlayStation Support).
- Delete games you're not playing: Settings > Storage > Console Storage > Games and Apps, pick what to remove, then Delete. You keep the license and can re-download purchases from your Game Library any time (PlayStation Support).
- Trim big games instead of deleting them: if a game shows Customize next to its name, you can delete parts you don't use, such as add-ons or finished modes, and keep the rest (PlayStation Support).
- Park games on a USB drive: move finished PS5 games to USB extended storage so you don't have to re-download them later. You'll need to copy them back to play (PlayStation Support).
- Do it from your phone: the PlayStation App can show your PS5 storage and delete games, but can't move them (PlayStation Support).

What to check before you buy an M.2 SSD
- Form factor 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, or 22110. With its heatsink, the drive must fit within 25 mm wide and 11.25 mm thick (Sony's full size limits).
- Sony says it can't guarantee that every drive meeting the spec will work, so check the drive's specs with the maker before you buy (PlayStation Support).
- A game's data has to sit in one place. You can't split GTA VI across internal storage and an M.2 drive (PlayStation Support).
- Update your PS5 system software before installing the drive (PlayStation Support).

Get ready for the Nov 12 preload
- Clear space before Nov 12, and leave extra room for the install headroom Sony describes and a day-one patch.
- Physical box? Redeem the code as soon as you have it. Codes redeemed before launch start preloading Nov 12 (Rockstar Support). On PS5, the code has to match your account's region.
- Turn on auto-download for your pre-order: Game Library, select GTA VI, select the countdown timer, and keep the content boxes checked (PlayStation Support).
- Let it download overnight: Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode > Stay Connected to the Internet (PlayStation Support).
- If you use an M.2 SSD, set Settings > Storage > Installation Location so the download goes where you want it (PlayStation Support).
